Use Net Promoter Score (NPS) in your survey

Learn how to use the Net Promoter Score (NPS) in a survey, how the NPS is calculated and how to interpret the results.

Net Promoter Score (NPS) measures how likely respondents are to recommend your event, product, or organization.

An NPS question always uses a scale from 0 to 10.

Create an NPS question

A commonly used question is:

How likely are you to recommend this event to others?

On this scale:

  • 0 means very unlikely

  • 10 means very likely

How is NPS calculated?

Respondents are divided into three groups:

  • Promoters: score 9 or 10

  • Passives: score 7 or 8

  • Detractors: score 0 through 6

NPS is calculated by subtracting the percentage of detractors from the percentage of promoters.

NPS = % promoters − % detractors

The final score can range from -100 to +100.

Example

Suppose:

  • 60% of respondents are promoters

  • 25% are passives

  • 15% are detractors

Your NPS is: 60 − 15 = 45

Passives are not included directly in the calculation.

Use NPS in Momice

To measure NPS, add a rating question with a scale from 0 to 10 to your survey.

Based on the responses, Momice automatically calculates the NPS and displays the score distribution in the survey report.

Tip: Add an open-ended follow-up question after the NPS question, for example: What is the main reason for your score?

This gives you additional context and helps you understand what you can improve for your next event.
