Testing the registration flow

Learn how to test your event registration process step by step in Momice. This article helps you check the invitation, registration flow, confirmation email, and paid tickets so attendees can register without issues.

Always test the full registration flow before sending invitations or sharing the URL of your event website. This ensures that participants can register without any issues.

If something goes wrong during registration, there is a good chance someone will drop off. That is why it is important to check in advance that all settings, texts, and links are correct.

Can you test the registration before the event website is live?

To test the complete registration flow, registration must be open and the Register page must be active. If registration is closed or the Register page is disabled, you cannot register and test the complete registration flow.

Therefore, always test the complete registration flow yourself before sharing the URL of your event website with invitees.

You can test the registration by adding yourself as an invitee, sending yourself a test email with the registration link, and registering via this link.

Please note: Do not disable the Register page to test the registration without making it visible. If this page is not active, you cannot complete the full registration flow.

Testing the registration yourself

First, go through the full registration flow yourself, just as a participant would.

How to test the registration

  1. Check that registration for your event is open.

  2. Manually add yourself in the Registration Module.

  3. Open your draft email using the pencil icon.

  4. Select yourself as an invitee through “Select invitees from list”.

  5. Send yourself a test email.

  6. Start the registration through the link in the invitation.

  7. Register for the event.

  8. Check all text on the Registration page.

  9. Also check the text in the registration confirmation.

  10. Click all links and buttons in:

    • the invitation

    • the registration confirmation

  11. Check that the full registration flow works as expected.

Also check additional scenarios

Also test the scenarios in which you use:

  • Plus-one

  • Waitlist

Please note: are you using the Waitlist? If so, temporarily set the maximum to 0 so you can test this properly.

Read more here about how the waitlist or extra guest registration (plus one) works.

Testing with colleagues or team members

It is a good idea to have others test the registration as well. This helps you quickly find out whether the invitation and confirmation are clear for your invitees.

How to do this

  1. Check that registration is open.

  2. Manually add your colleagues in the Registration Module.

  3. Open your draft email in the Mail Module using the pencil icon.

  4. Select your colleagues one by one through “Select invitees from list”.

  5. Go to “Test and send”.

  6. Choose “Test”.

  7. Enter the correct email address for each colleague separately.

  8. Add a short introduction asking them to review the email.

  9. Ask the tester to go through the full registration process.

Tip: provide as little extra explanation as possible. This gives you the most honest feedback on whether the email and registration are truly clear.

Also ask your tester to try different scenarios, such as registering, registering with a plus-one, or registering through the waitlist.

Testing paid tickets

Are you working with paid tickets? If so, you can also test this full process.

Please note: this is only possible by actually purchasing a ticket.

How to test paid tickets

  1. Temporarily set a low ticket price.

  2. Go through the payment process the same way a participant would.

  3. Check whether all settings for the paid ticket are correct.

  4. Check that the payment and confirmation are processed correctly.

Please note: the ticket price must be at least €1 due to service fees and transaction costs.

Good to know

Revenue from test tickets is included in the event revenue. You will receive this amount back later in the payout.

Please note: service fees and transaction costs will still be deducted. Before testing, also check that settings such as VAT settings are correct.

Please note: once a payment has been completed, you can no longer change these types of settings.

Finished testing?

Before sharing the event website, check that:

  • the full registration flow has been completed successfully

  • all texts and links are correct

  • any additional scenarios have been tested

  • any paid tickets work correctly

  • the confirmation is sent correctly

Does everything work as expected? You can now share the URL of your event website with your participants.
