When selling paid entry tickets in Momice, you need to set a VAT rate. Momice uses this rate to calculate VAT and display it on the participant's invoice.
In this article, you'll learn how to set the VAT rate, how VAT is calculated, and what to keep in mind.
Please note: You cannot change the VAT rates for entry tickets or extra paid options after the first payment. This also applies to test payments. Make sure to check all VAT settings before making a payment.
Setting the VAT rate for your entry ticket
Your organization is responsible for selecting the correct VAT rate. This may depend on the type of event, the products or services offered, and the countries involved. If you're unsure, consult your finance department.
How is VAT calculated?
Momice always displays ticket prices including VAT. This means VAT is not automatically added on top of the ticket price you enter.
If you want to charge VAT on top of an amount excluding VAT, you must increase the ticket price yourself to include the VAT amount.
Example: A ticket priced at €100 excluding VAT
You want to sell an entry ticket for €100 excluding VAT. The applicable VAT rate is 21%.
Ticket price excluding VAT: €100
VAT (21%): €21
Ticket price including VAT: €121
You should therefore set the ticket price in Momice to €121.
If you pass the Momice service fee on to the participant, this fee will be added on top of the ticket price you have set.
Setting VAT rates for extra paid options
Do you offer extra paid options alongside the entry ticket, such as a workshop or dinner? You can set a separate VAT rate for each paid answer option.
Go to Website Module → Pages → Registration.
Open the relevant closed-ended question or workshop question.
Go to the Price tab.
Set the correct VAT rate for each paid answer option.
Click Save.
The VAT rate for an extra paid option can differ from the VAT rate of the entry ticket. This means multiple VAT rates can appear on a single invoice.
Please note: The VAT rates for extra paid options also cannot be changed after the first payment. Make sure the correct VAT rate is set for each paid answer option.
Check VAT settings before the first payment
Before making a payment, check that:
The correct VAT rate is set for the entry ticket.
The VAT rates for all extra paid options are correct.
The ticket price including VAT is correct.
The VAT amounts are displayed correctly on the invoice.
Good to know: A test payment also counts as the first payment. After this payment, the VAT rates for both the entry ticket and extra paid options are locked and can no longer be changed.
